MOUTH GUARDS

For relaxed teeth

Stress often triggers unconscious teeth grinding or clenching. This can lead to enamel wear, muscle pain and headaches over the years. Serious TMJ disorders are also possible. With the right crunch splints / night splints, we can stop this process.

When

Crunch splints have become an indispensable part of our times. In our fast-moving times, clenching or grinding teeth at night (so-called bruxism) are very common. In the long term, both can have negative consequences for teeth, jaw joints and masticatory muscles. Teeth quickly lose their protective enamel due to the constant high stress. Arthritic signs of wear and tear can occur in the temporomandibular joint. The masticatory muscles can also begin to cause headache-like pain when subjected to incorrect stress. The causes of grinding and clenching are usually multifactorial and are made up of one or more of the following factors: stress, tooth loss, incorrectly made fillings, bridges or prostheses, condition after orthodontic treatment.

Often symptoms only arise when the damage is very advanced. We therefore recommend that you have this examined during the annual inspection if you or your partner have noticed.

How

The goal of splint therapy is often very different depending on the individual situation and can mean, for example, freedom from pain, stopping the loss of tooth substance or regaining normal jaw mobility.

In a detailed initial examination, the current findings, signs of wear and tear and stress level are determined. We will then work with you to determine the therapy goal. Your attending physician will then decide which type of splint is best for your symptoms.

material

Night splints are made of biocompatible plastics or medical silicone, depending on the target.

costs

In the case of existing symptoms (e.g. severe wear and tear of the teeth or complaints), the costs for examination and diagnosis are borne by the statutory health insurance. The costs for the splint itself are borne privately by the patient and amount to around CHF 98 to 990, depending on the type of splint.
