More about the dental emergency service

If you have dental problems that require immediate treatment, we are always there for you as a dental practice with an emergency service. With us you will receive a dentist appointment on the same day during regular opening hours.

In a dental emergency, we distinguish 3 categories:

Category 1

For example, advanced abscesses with severe swelling, knocked out or severely displaced teeth, open wounds with unstoppable and heavy bleeding in the mouth area, jaw fractures, etc.

Category 2

Root inflammation with moderate to severe pain, broken and knocked out teeth.

Category 3

Filled out fillings / crowns, fallen out veneers, denture pressure points and sharp edges.

In the case of category 1, there is no time to lose.

Here are instructions on how to behave on tooth related accidents:

Call us on 044 215 51 55 or come to our clinic at Bahnhofplatz 12 without prior notice. If you call after 9 pm you can contact the dental emergency service of the city of Zurich by calling 0800 33 66 55  at night.

An emergency treatment at ZurichDental takes about 30-45 minutes and is mainly used to remedy the current problem or the pain.

An emergency treatment does not replace a dental examination or definitive treatment, although in some cases a definite solution can already be produced during the emergency session.

Prophylaxis helps against dental emergencies

As experts, we recommend that you prevent dental problems with regular oral hygiene and professional teeth cleaning. You should also have a check-up at the dentist at least once a year. Problems and toothaches cannot always be avoided, but you can counteract them as best you can with the recommendations mentioned.

Dental problems can in principle occur at any time. It is often difficult for those affected to assess how urgent immediate treatment is. Can the dental treatment wait a few hours, days, or even weeks? Or should the nearest emergency service be visited immediately?

In the following we would like to give you a little help when you should visit an emergency dentist.

Dental emergencies include severe toothache, infection, or broken teeth and lost teeth.

The most common dental emergencies are:

In these cases you should contact your ZurichDental® emergency dentist immediately.

As a rule, there are some indicators that will help assess the urgency of a visit to the emergency dentist.
For example, if you've lost a tooth or a tooth has broken off, you should definitely make an appointment with your emergency dentist directly. Even if you have severe toothache, do not hesitate to make an emergency appointment straight away! If you notice a sensitive area that is not really restrictive, you can usually make a normal appointment with the dentist and wait until then without worry.

Dental accident

Since the bones are not as strong in children and adolescents as in adults, they are more likely to have dental accidents.
Most often, dental accidents happen during sports activities or car accidents instead.
Usually a tooth is knocked out or hit completely so that it is no longer stable or in the right place in the jaw. Then, at best, you should see your emergency dentist within half an hour after the accident. If the tooth is completely knocked out, bring it with you and avoid touching the exposed root of the tooth. Ideally, the dentist can replace the tooth that has fallen out.

Children's tooth emergencies

ZurichDental is not only the right contact for dental emergencies in adults, but is also a children's dentist emergency practice. We have an emergency dentist for children who is specially trained for the needs and fears of small and large children, who takes a lot of time for treatment and has experience in children's dentistry.

Toothache

Inflammation inside the tooth causes inflammation. There are the tooth nerves, which are extremely sensitive to pain. These are caused by holes in the teeth, injuries or infections. Jaw pain can also radiate to teeth and be perceived as a toothache.

Swelling of the jaw

You should always take swelling of the jaw or gums seriously. Especially if this occurs in a short time. Swelling can indicate tooth abscesses that require prompt treatment by an emergency dentist. Chronic swellings that have existed for a long time should also be examined by a dentist. They can be a clue for cysts or even tumors in the oral cavity.
